The FAA continues to develop several action plans, including issuance of policy to address applicant disclosure of design changes and safety critical information to the FAA, and the FAA’s level of involvement during the certification process.In May 2023, we issued Policy Statement, PS-AIR-21.15-01, Submission of Outline of New and Changed Systems at the Beginning of the Type Certificate Amendment Process for Transport Category Aircraft, requiring applicants for amendments to type certificates (TCs) for transport category aircraft to disclose all new systems and intended changes to existing systems known to the applicant. This policy statement provides a method for an applicant to clearly communicate changes in design, including safety critical information, on one form at the beginning of the TC amendment process. This process improvement will help the FAA ensure an appropriate level of review and involvement.
